calibrateBUMPS: Cait's Week 16-17

Hi Everyone!

This week we found out Fudge has supposedly developed her sense of hearing so her music education has begun! This week I started with David Bowie.

Fun story of the week: I think the pregnancy hormones are starting to kick in! On Monday I almost full on burst into tears in public for absolutely no reason. Unfortunately I don't remember what the trigger was but I promise I'll write them down from now on so I don't forget!

Training

I definitely felt like Fudge and the bump did some growing this week, I felt a bit of strain in my lower abdomen and my energy levels weren't as high as they have been in the past few weeks. This week was a lighter week for sure!

Monday

I had a free morning this morning so I took the opportunity to do something I'd always wanted to do but never been able to do, take the coastal walk all the way from Pokfulam into Central to get to work.

Nothing like a 2.5 hour walk in the sunshine to start your day followed by a long 45min stretch!

I used the walk to set the tone and set some realistic training goals for the week ahead. Mainly, I've been focussing a lot on strength and feel like I've been neglecting my mobility and flexibility. This week I've promised myself 45min of stretching/mobility/yoga every day.

Tuesday

Today was a day of resting and stretching. My energy levels were not in a place where I felt comfortable training. I think the hike and all the walking from the past few days finally caught up to me today so I listened to my body and gave it some rest.

I did get my 15k steps in though and also did my 45min stretching.

Wednesday

I woke up this morning very vitalised and ready to go so I decided to have my first session back in a larger gym (not the studio or the gym in my building) and it felt amazing.

3 sets each:

A1. 10 Barbell Deadlifts

A2. 10 Kettlebell Rows

A3. 30s Kettlebell Swing

B1. 15 Single Leg Hip Thrusts

B2. 12 Dumbell Chest Presses

B3. 30s Battle Ropes

45min stretch

Thursday

Today I inadvertently went for a 80min run. I only meant to go for 30min because that's how long I thought I'd last, next thing I knew it had been 80min! The run itself felt amazing and I actually think I could have gone for longer, I only stopped because I realised I had to get home, cook lunch, and go to work! The only downside to the run was due to the length of time I was gone, I ran out of time for a stretch after...

Friday

Definitely felt the repercussions of a long run with no stretch today! I also had a rather busy day in the studio (7am - 7:30pm) but I did manage to do 2 rounds of stretching/mobility, each session was 30-45min.

Saturday

Rest day! Today was a day for the friends. Celebrating new life with one group and celebrating another trip around the sun with another!

Sunday

The recently not-so-weekly-weekly take your husband to work day resumed this week. We went into the studio at 8am for a quick training session before a day of beach reading, coastal boardwalks, and some admin work.

3 sets:

A1. 12 Lunge to Shoulder Press

A2. 15 Bear Crawl Hold Fire Hydrants

B1. 10 Crossover Step Up

B2. 12 Abductor Banded Leg Lowers

C1. 12 Swiss Ball Hamstring Curls

C2. 60s Stir the Pot

Life in General

Apart from my almost total breakdown in public on Monday for no apparent reason there still isn't too much movement on this front.

I'm beginning to think "glowing pregnancy skin" is just going to be one of those pregnancy things I get to bypass or it's just a myth doctors tell women because you have to throw us a bone somewhere for these 9 months. "You'll get super uncomfortable, you'll be super tired, you'll hate some foods you used to love, you'll have no control over your hormones, you might throw up every day for the first 12 weeks, you'll probably get heartburn, you'll definitely lose your mind, your fingers and feet are going to swell like nobody's business, you can't drink alcohol, here's a list of all the foods that you're not allowed to eat but also make sure you eat all these foods, but hey, your skin will be pretty!"

I can't really complain though, I didn't get morning sickness, I haven't (yet) experienced heartburn, I don't have food cravings or aversions, my gums aren't bleeding (apparently a thing...), and so I haven't yet experienced a lot of the negative symptoms that come with pregnancy (yet). Yes, I get tired a lot faster but who doesn't love a good nap? Plus, going to bed at 8:30/9pm is an absolute dream during the week.

I do feel like my appetite is slowly starting to build but I'm still not at a point where I feel like I'm hungry all the time. Weirdly, my appetite is also almost non-existent after about 8pm. If I haven't eaten dinner before then, I'm not hungry at all. 3 times this week I either worked late or had engagements that lasted beyond 7:30pm, by the time it came to eating dinner I had to convince myself to eat something.

All in all, a slower week this week due to some growth. Excited to see what next week has in store for me though! The great thing about pregnancy is it definitely keeps you on your toes!

Have a fabulous week everyone!
